When the Pressure Is On is an unedited prayer-poem I wrote in just five minutes. I hope this prayer-poem inspires you today.
Today’s post is based on the prompt for Five Minute Friday. Today’s prompt is “Pressure,” and here is my prayer/poem.
When the Pressure Is On
Father God,
When the pressure is on
and I’m tempted to complain
whine
or drop out
remind me that pressure
can be good:
the trickling water
from a hose
transformed by a pressure washer
to deep clean
the tension on a string
in a weaver’s loom
to create a beautiful tapestry
impossible without pressure
the strength in a massage
to relive aches in deep tissue
not possible
with a light touch.
May I see some pressure in my life
as necessary
for greater purpose
and efficiency.
But if the pressure exceeds
a helpful mark
may I run to you
for relief
help
discernment
and perfect peace
even inside the highest
pressure moments.
May the moments of pressure
in my daily life
refine me
like an olive press
releasing the life-giving
oil to soften
nourish
and anoint
others with your goodness.
