When I Strongly Disagree is an unedited prayer-poem I wrote in just five minutes. I hope this prayer-poem inspires you today.
Today’s post is based on the prompt for Five Minute Friday. Today’s prompt is “Disagree,” and here is my prayer/poem.
When I Strongly Disagree
Father God,
When I strongly disagree
with one
of your image-bearers
may I remember
you are the Blessed Controller
over all things
and you will give us more clarity
understanding
and peace
in the new heaven
and new earth to come.
Jesus,
when I strongly disagree
with a brother or sister
in Christ
may I remember
you fervently prayed
for our unity
in the garden of Gethsemane
as drops of blood
flowed out of your broken capillaries.
May I remember you
died for us all
to make us your cherished
bride, to be united
with you as our Bridegroom
someday
when you make all things new.
Holy Spirit,
when I strongly disagree
with someone
outside your Church
may you stir in me
your wonderful gifts
of spiritual fruit
so I am more gentle
self-controlled
and loving.
May you grant me
compassion
where I want to hate
discernment
when I want to lash out
perfect peace that passes all understanding
when their words and actions
distress me.
O Holy Trinity,
teach me to disagree
with grace
and pursue the unity
you perfectly demonstrate
toward us
as your beloved
yet imperfect
creations.
