What is a walking desk? And how can it help you? I love my walking desk, and here’s how it has helped me.
My Walking Desk
Here’s the text from my Facebook post when I got my walking desk in the summer of 2018:
It is 7:00 am and I already have 10k steps from using my new walking desk!
Yesterday I easily got 16k walking at 2.5 mph while I worked.
It is quiet enough that all three kids are still asleep—my son’s bedroom wall adjoins this one.
The best thing of all is that I felt WAY more alert and focused while writing!
I have struggled with low energy for years, and this is an amazing solution for me with zero negative side effects and a million benefits.
Ready for the extra pounds to start falling off! {and they did!}
My walking desk has helped me get my daily steps in, stay more alert while working, and shed extra pounds. Check out how it can help you too! #walkingdesk #healthtips #workingfromhome #workathome Click To TweetBenefits of a Walking Desk
Your walking desk can help you lose pounds, stay more active, and be more alert while you are working. I use it for one to two hours per day, taking breaks to simply stand at it between doing other activities as a work-from-home-mom. If you are working from home, a walking desk is an investment in your health, because it keeps you active and helps properly align your spine.
I mostly use it when doing beta-level tasks like scheduling social media posts and checking email. For alpha-level tasks, I move my setup to the dining room table so I can sit and concentrate. But you may be comfortable standing at it for long periods. It’s all a personal preference.
It does take time to adjust to the feeling of walking while typing or using your mouse. If you have any balance issues, this may not work well for you. However, it’s an excellent way to get more activity in while you are online or working, once you adjust to the setup.
If you are working from home, a walking desk is a wise investment in your health. #workingfromhome #workfromhome #wahm #walkingdesk Click To TweetSetting Up Your Walking Desk
Interested in getting your own walking desk? Here are some products to consider.
Under Desk Treadmill
Here’s an under-desk treadmill like the one I have, which is currently unavailable on Amazon. Be sure that you check the dimensions for length and width so it will fit in your space and under the desk you choose. It is relatively quiet and simple to operate. The original one I ordered is now discontinued, but the one in this list is another good one!
Walking Desk
Here’s the standing desk I use. It’s so affordable, and I set it up myself in less than an hour. My desk is from the Staples website. Also consider this one from Amazon.
I put the desk together myself in less than an hour. To have more room for the treadmill, I didn’t put the crossbar in the middle at the bottom. Leaving it out hasn’t affected the desk’s stability. Nothing shifts around while I’m moving. I love it!
Riser
Here’s the riser that you’ll need to get your computer and keyboard to the correct height, from the Staples website. You can also check out this riser on Amazon.
Wireless Keyboard
I need an ergonomic setup for my walking desk workstation. To do this, I set my laptop computer on a large priority mail cardboard box to get my computer at my eye level. I also use a wireless keyboard with an ergonomic design to reduce the strain on my wrists and arms. This is the ergonomically designed keyboard I use, and I love it!
Don’t forget to use an ergonomic computer mouse and a wrist cushion for even more comfort!
Another tip: If you already have a treadmill and want to add a desktop to it, look at this add-on product on Amazon.
Good News! You’ll Get a Tax Write-Off
If you are self-employed like I am, you can also get a tax deduction for these items! Keep a copy of your order numbers and print them off for your accounting practices.
