Saturday Sips is a short recollection of what I’ve learned this month. I’m following a format known as Share Four Somethings, and I hope it inspires your own reflections on what you’ve learned this November.
1. Something Loved
I have been experiencing pain in my right hand and wrist due to heavy mouse work. So I ordered this crazy-looking, ergonomic computer mouse, and it’s making a dramatic difference. The 36K+ reviews don’t lie, and I’m adding my own 5-star review too. So grateful for this contraption!
2. Something Read or Said
The best book I read this month is Redeeming Heartache by Dan Allender and Cathy Loerzel. It is healing me in the deepest places. The quote resonating with me most is this: “The orphan spirit is at war with care and rest.” I plan to make a podcast episode on it soon. Check it out on Amazon or CBD.
One of the most helpful podcasts I’ve listened to this month is Healing Parent and Adult Child Relationships (Part 1 of 2) on Focus on the Family. The advice Dr. John Townsend gives is golden. Check it out HERE.
Finally, the best just-for-fun video I watched is from my friend’s trip through the Smoky Mountains, where I attended college. I loved viewing all the beautiful fall foliage. Check it out HERE.
3. Something Treasured
This is a new treasure for me, and I have an encouraging testimony to share with you.
Recently I had a conversation with my intern about some money problems. She encouraged me to start tithing on everything I make. Though I have always given to the church, I have not been specific on giving a full 10 percent.
I was in the throne room praying on Sun., Nov. 21, like I do every week. I prayed about all of my money issues and set them on the altar. Then, God brought to mind a beautiful weaving I saw at the craft fair the day before. It had a price tag of $120.
When I was a senior in college, I had to take a fibers art class as part of my art degree requirements. I loved that class so much, I realized I probably would have majored in fiber arts if I had taken it sooner. So I’ve always had a love for fiber arts though I have not really pursued them myself in my own art.
In the prayer room, God told me to go back to the craft fair and purchase it as a symbol of the redeeming work he will do in me regarding the trauma I’ve experienced over finances, going back to childhood. He said that if I purchase it in faith (I rarely spend that much on myself on one single item), he will provide the recompense for it.
God wants me to display it in my office and every time I see it, pray that I will be like a well-watered garden as promised in Isaiah 58:11. He also told me to make that verse my meditation verse for 2022, since I pick a verse every year:
The Lord will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring.
Isaiah 58:11 NLT
I’m on the devotional writing team for Proverbs 31 Ministries. In one of my Zoom calls with the Proverbs 31 staff, Joel Muddamalle said that gardens are a sign of God’s kingdom in the Bible. Only kings could afford to have gardens, because they required a large supply of potable water and a paid staff to maintain them. When we see gardens in the Bible, they are a sign of God’s kingly presence, abundant provision and beauty.
I was overcome with tears of joy when God revealed this in the throne room. And I was overjoyed to find the tapestry waiting for me on Sunday. It’s now hanging in my office.
Then, on Wed., Nov. 24, I received a blessing check of $100 out of the blue from one of my launch team members for my teen girl book. I tithed on that check, and I’ll continue tithing on everything I receive this month.
So grateful to join this adventure with God!
4. Something Ahead
In December, I’m planning to rest and relax, enjoying the beauty of the season and observing Advent with my family. But I’m also planning to do these things:
- learn to edit my own podcasts
- walk every day at my walking desk
- use my Happy Light to fight off seasonal affective disorder
- add weight-bearing exercises to my daily routine
- enjoy a salad, bone-broth soup, and a fruit smoothie each day
- read more books to reach my Goodreads goal of 100 books per year
- work on Part 2 of my Women of Integrity courses
What are your four somethings from November 2021? I’d love to hear from you. Leave your thoughts in the comments, friend.
