A Prayer for Green Hope is an unedited prayer-poem I wrote in just five minutes. I hope this prayer-poem inspires you today.
Today’s post is based on the prompt for Five Minute Friday, written from 6:25 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2021. Today’s prompt is “Green,” and here is my prayer/poem.
A Prayer for Green Hope
O God of green hope,
Open my eyes to see your hope
sprouting all around me.
In the bright white light
of March afternoons
help me seek
everything and anything
green
and see the leaves and tendrils
unfolding
as promises fulfilled.
What a long year it’s been
since our world turned upside down.
How could any of us have known
what these twelve hard months
would hold.
Today we need your green
fresh
living
hope
more than ever, Lord.
My heart is glad
to find it
in my lawn
on roadsides
and in pastures.
Poking through
the driest grasses
thickest clay
grittiest gravel.
Nothing will stop
this green’s arrival
just as it has come
every single spring.
May the green we see
this spring
not only heal us
from all the charred scars
of a painful year
but remind us
of the evergreen hope
of your second coming
Jesus
we can expect
sure as spring
arrives in a green robe
year after year.
