3 Ways to Praise God More Often

What reasons do you have for praising God today? Mine include: a sunny, relatively warm day; my fun-loving labrador retriever; health and material blessings, and the list continues. Even if you’re struggling, you can look around and find many reasons to praise God, because he’s always good.

Recently I learned a lesson about praise from a Facebook post. I want to share this lesson with you today in this devotion.

3 Ways to Praise God More Often

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Psalm 103:1 NIV

One of my Facebook friends received a big blessing. She has endured hearing loss, and got a cochlear implant to improve her hearing. Watching the video of her responding to new sounds was thrilling. I learned even more from her following post that described her new journey.

She is slowly adjusting to hearing all the sounds which hearing people take for granted. This dear woman described feeling completely overwhelmed at church, or when she was around more than four people at a time. She’s learning to filter out the background sounds and focus on the important ones.

I read and reread her post, thinking about what it must be like to pick and choose which sounds to retain. Then I thought about all the sounds our infinite God hears every day. All the noise! The shouts, harsh words, curses, and blame. All the sinful clatter.

What must stand out to God in all the noise is our praise. No wonder the Psalms list the word “praise” over 180 times, depending on the translation. He wants our praises to raise up to him like beautiful love notes.

I admit, I don’t praise God often enough. Like most of you, I pray every day. Those prayers are mainly requests, which are good and necessary. But this year, I want my praise to stand out to God.

3 Ways to Praise God More Often

Here are three ways I’m praising God more intentionally in 2020:

1. Start my prayers with praise. I think about who God is and praise him for his attributes. Check out these amazing names of God on this image.

2. Sing along with praise music. I often use the quiet time of a commute to pray. But I’m turning on The Message on Sirius XM and singing praises to God more often. You can do this with your own recordings or your local Christian radio station.

3. Meditate on verses that inspire praise. I’ve created a new printable in my Library for you to help inspire your praise of God. You will receive access to the Library when you sign up for my Tea on Tuesdays newsletter below!

Here’s a prayer to encourage you:

Heavenly Father,
You are always worthy of praise.
I confess to you that I don’t praise you often enough.
Inspire me through your Word to praise you more often.
I want my praises to rise above all the noise you hear, and be a sweet sound to you every day.
Thank you for giving me many reasons to praise you, Lord.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
