Peaceable Walks with God is a prayer of longing for fellowship with God. I hope this prayer-poem inspires you today.
Today’s post is the twentieth one in the #write28days challenge, in which I’m participating during the month of February 2021. Today’s prompt is “Peaceable,” and here is my prayer/poem.
Peaceable Walks with God
Father God,
In this fortnight of ice and snow
I’ve missed my walks with you.
Walks outside that connect me
with you and your creation
no matter which season
is upon me.
The bitterly cold
northern jet stream
brought us nine inches
of snowflakes
millions upon millions
piled up here
on my eight acres
and kept me from my daily walks.
Yet this cold pause
has made me appreciate
peaceable walks with you
all the more.
A few days from now
you’ll place us in the thaw
and I’ll put on my shoes and jacket
grab the dog’s leash
and head toward our familiar path.
I’ve walked the same way
thousands of times before
yet learn something new
each time
in our communion.
On the way to the bridge
I pour my heart out to you
all the joys and frustrations
combined in a messy pile.
Then on the way back home
I wait to hear your voice.
You always first say
I love you
then you give me fresh
insight into my problems
new and different ways
of seeing your world
uncovered paths to take
when stone walls
blocked the horizon.
Your perspective
fills me with deep peace
I get nowhere else.
Lord, let your sun shine
to melt the snow
and send your rain
to wash it away
so I can rejoin you again
on that peaceable path
of our intimacy.
Soon.
