Are you facing a lean season? You can still have abundance in it with God’s help. Today I’m writing for five unedited minutes on the prompt “More” for the Five Minute Friday linkup, and here is encouragement for you.
More Abundance in a Lean Season
My upcoming lean season will be abundant, not sparse.
I’m quitting my job and jumping into the freelance life on May 15. No income right away means more diligence, but I’m refusing to fall into the old trap of a scarcity mindset.
- I’m shopping my own closet. How many shirts don’t get worn often enough? Plenty. Scarves fill my shelves and pants stack high. It’s time to introduce more variety to my wardrobe.
- I’m shopping my own library. I have dozens of books waiting to be read, thanks to used book sales at the library. Not buying one more book until I’ve enjoyed at least ten of the reads currently collecting dust.
- I’m shopping my own pantry. Getting creative with the sauces, condiments, pasta, and baking mixes lining the shelves. It’s time to use up what I have and dive into my cookbooks for more inspiration.
- I’m shopping my own craft room. I love Hobby Lobby, but I’m refusing to step through the doors until I’ve created something new from my hefty stash. Nothing more unless it’s tape or thread to complete a project.
- I’m shopping my own garage. It’s a perfect time to start a garden. I’ve been going through my stash of seeds, which will provide an abundance of fruits and vegetables. With a little love and hard work, I’ll have a fruitful harvest in spring, summer and fall.
More diligence, more variety, more inspiration, more creativity. This sounds like the abundant life to which God calls me, not a life dominated by fear and fretting. I’m depending on him for provision, and I’m ready for a new adventure in abundance!

Check your closet. How can you use what you have without purchasing something new next month?
Check your library (literal or virtual). Which book has been waiting longest on your to-read list?
How can you get creative with ingredients from your pantry this weekend?
What can you make with what you already have on hand in your craft stash?
