These are my March 2020 Christian book picks for Christian fiction and non-fiction. They are great picks for men and women who want to grow in faith. I’d love for you to tell me which ones sound best to you in the comments below. Books on prayer, changing your mindset, improving your relationships, and inspiring your spiritual growth, plus two clean fiction reads.
Dangerous Prayers
It’s an excellent time to reboot your prayer life, due to the current pandemic in our culture. This book is simple, powerful and profound. Craig Groeschel writes with wisdom, humor, gentleness, and honesty, sharing three basic prayers drawn straight from scripture. I love this book because it taught me to look at the scriptures in a new way and pray with more intention. In April 2020, I’ll be doing the online Bible study with this book at Proverbs 31 Ministries…you can sign up today!

Jennie Allen is a powerful Bible teacher. Since I also wrote a book about transforming your thought life, I wanted to get her perspective on how to change negative thought patterns. She shares interesting and thought-provoking stories from her own life, and the lives of many others, to help you understand how to stop toxic thinking. I liked the illustrations at the end of each chapter which show how you can reverse the spirals. A great book to help you stop anxious, angry, selfish and self-destructive thoughts.

Looking for a lighthearted, uplifting book that will still challenge your faith? This is a wonderful read that had me laughing out loud several times. Right off the bat, Mike Novotny reveals the three simple words that will change your life, and help you find encouragement. His humor is as bright as a sunny day, and we can all use a reason to laugh right now. This book would make an excellent online small group study, especially for young adults. It will also entertain and encourage you to look at the ways God is lovingly present in your life.

In my current training as a Stephen Minister, I am learning about the vital importance of listening to people’s problems and treating them with compassion. This book is a must-read resource for leaders of families, small groups, churches, community groups, and businesses who want to lead like Jesus did. Steve and Becky Harling are a husband and wife team with many years of leadership experience, and I enjoyed the two-point perspective. I found the chapters on handling criticism and engaging in conflict especially helpful and instructive. An indispensable resource for the one who wants to lead well.

I have followed Abby McDonald for years, and now we are both published authors with Leafwood Publishers. Her book is a lovely guide for how to shift your perspective and see God working in your life. What a needed topic in our troubled times! Abby writes with gentleness, and her personal stories enrich each chapter. She also closely examines a person from the Bible in every chapter, which will help you gain valuable perspective. It’s a peaceful read to deepen your faith.

My friend Kate Motaung published this book of poetry when her mother died from cancer, which she also chronicles in her memoir, A Place to Land. Sometimes poetry is the best language for capturing deep feelings, because it distills our thoughts into concrete images. Her brief poems will resonate with you if you are grieving right now. Even if you have not experienced a literal death, you may be saddled with grief from a living death in our uncertain times. This book can serve as a call to prayer, which will strengthen your faith and resolve. A beautiful song of hope is threaded through this brief book, which I recommend to you.

Dr. Debi Smith and I became Twitter friends, and she graciously offered her book to me. I have read many marriage books, and this one is truly a unique standout. Though many men and women misunderstand and misinterpret the marriage directives in Ephesians 5, Dr. Debi helps us understand their value and how God’s Word is the perfect design for marriage. One of her primary focuses is helping women understand how men are more sensitive than we typically assume, and this helpful insight provides immediate takeaways that can bless your marriage. I greatly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it if your marriage could use a tune-up.

When presented with an opportunity for love, Ann isn’t sure how to proceed. This novel details her choices, and also provides enchanting details about the Pacific Northwest, plus the clothing, food and fun Ann enjoyed in an interesting time of American history.
