Do you receive love letters from God? You may be receiving them without recognizing them. Here are stories of a few love letters I’ve recently received from God. I hope it helps you see the ways he’s sending you love letters too.
Love Letters from God
Which of you still like receiving personal snail mail?
I know it’s sort of old-fashioned to get personal cards or letters in the mail anymore. But when you do, doesn’t it feel good to get one?
I got one yesterday, a postcard that simply said, “Praying for you.” Just in time to beat a stressful, exhausting day. A dear friend from several states away was praying for me, and I felt uplifted.
Sometimes I get love letters from God too. Mostly through nature. I got one this week, and I want to encourage you with this short story.

Every morning, I walk my dog along a very short gravel road. It’s managed by the county, but trafficked by very few. Just the school bus, mail truck, and a couple farmers every day. A few church goers every Sunday. But since it’s just a short one that connects a bigger county road to a county highway, there’s no need for many to travel on it. Perfect for quiet prayer walks with my dog.
All summer I’ve been studying the roadsides for wildflowers. They grow in abundance on a rarely monitored road. You can see a gallery of some of them on my recent Instagram post. Lately, the grasses have been setting seed and growing even taller than me, so I knew a mowing was inevitable. I enjoyed the flowers as long as I could, yet one day last week, they were all cut down by the county mower.
It wasn’t the best morning for me to see mowed-down flower heads. I was struggling, and looking forward to seeing those tiny signs of God’s beautiful handiwork. Seeing them in shreds brought my spirit down a bit further.
I kept walking and praying like always, seeing plain weeds and grasses on either side of the road. Then right as I was pouring out a deep hurt to God, he drew my eyes to something on the creek bank.
One single stem of purple flowers had survived in a sea of green. My favorite color. Right when I needed to see it.
A love letter from God.
He whispered to my spirit,“I love you. I see you. I care.”
Is It a Love Letter from God?
Let me be clear. God is not IN that flower. But I believe he preserved that flower for my sight only. Probably no other person in this entire world will see it but me. God made sure the flower was in full bloom at that exact moment. He turned my head toward it because he knew I needed his unique encouragement.
I can’t count how many times God has done that for me. One yellow daffodil on a barren hillside in freezing January. An owl calling in my woods late at night. A pair of wood ducks visiting our pond on a stressful morning. All “happening” to be seen or heard at the exact right time, when I need comfort, peace or assurance.
Does God send you love letters like this, friend? He sends them most often to me through plants and animals. Maybe he sends them to you through people. Perhaps you’ve received a check on the very day you need it. There are many ways he sends us reminders of his love.
Bible Love Letters from God
We can always turn to the Bible for reminders that God loves us. The verse that comforts me is this one:
“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!”
1 John 3:1a NLT
This verse helps me trust God as my Father. I consider it a love letter that I can always turn back to when I need it. Which verse in the Bible reminds you of God’s love? I’d love to hear it from you in the comments below.
Here’s a prayer to bless you this week:
Heavenly Father,
I praise you for your creative gifts of love.
You use whatever you want to remind me that you love me.
I thank you that I can always turn to your Word for encouragement.
Open my eyes to the love letters you are sending me, Lord.
I don’t want to miss them.
Help me see the little things you use to bless me.
Teach me from your Word about your everlasting love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
