I’m Exasperated, Lord is a simple prayer for a new perspective. I’m praying this today, and you can pray this prayer with me.
Today’s post is the eighth one in the #write28days challenge, in which I’m participating during the month of February 2021. Today’s prompt is “Exasperated,” and here is my prayer/poem.
I’m Exasperated, Lord
Father God,
I’m glad I can sit with you
when I’m exasperated
with the way things are.
Frustrated to the point
of giving up.
But not so irritated
that I’m unwilling to learn.
So I come to you
letting it all splat out
on the table
hot and messy –
then a rush of relief
comes from not
holding it in anymore.
I’m exasperated, Lord,
but I’m also amazed
that the Creator of the universe
is willing to listen
to this pile of dust’s complaints.
In fact, you invite me closer
so I can be more of myself with you.
My love for you blooms
even in this mess.
Here in this prayer space
I vent vertically
and you help me sort it out:
what I can release
between you and me
what I need to do
to seek wise counsel
what I need to say
to confront another.
I’ve learned it’s best
to come to you first
when I’m exasperated.
Otherwise I explode
or leak out poison
on others
who cannot handle it.
But you can handle it all.
Untangle me, Lord.
Straighten out the twists and turns
of my frustration and irritation.
Point out what parts are mine
and help me make corrections.
Show me what parts are not mine
to change, but to challenge
or relinquish.
When I’m exasperated, Lord
may it be an opportunity
for me to gain new perspective
on myself
others
and you.
May I put on your humility
admit my faults
trust you with what I can’t change
and leave the prayer room
with the peace
that passes all understanding.
