I Have No Excuse is an unedited prayer-poem I wrote in just five minutes. I hope this prayer-poem inspires you today.
Today’s post is based on the prompt for Five Minute Friday. Today’s prompt is “Excuse,” and here is my prayer/poem.
I Have No Excuse
Father God,
I have no excuse
for not meeting with you
every day.
What a gracious privilege
you have afforded me
through your son’s sacrifice
to boldly enter
your holy place
and bow before you
with all my needs.
But my excuses
pile high each day
with real responsibilities
and perceived burdens
mostly draped
with the incessant
cries of my flesh
my ever-constant
hidden desire
to elevate me
to the throne
instead of humbling myself
before you.
In my shame
I try to bury myself
in my excuses pile
hiding from you
in my unworthiness.
But kind and loving
father that you are
you reach for me
with your warm hand
pulling me out
back into your presence
enfolding me
in your embrace
and I have no excuse
not to return
to you
again and again
as often
as I need.
