Here is how your book benefits from a marketing plan, plus news about my resource for Christian authors: Book Marketing Mastery.
How Your Book Benefits from a Marketing Plan
So many authors just want to write. They don’t just dislike marketing – they HATE it.
I have heard more than one Christian author say, “If only one person reads my book and gets saved/grows closer to God, that’s good enough for me.”
While I respect that viewpoint, I also go back to the parable of the talents when I think about marketing Christian books.
If you simply self-publish, or even hybrid/traditionally publish, and don’t have a marketing plan, you may get a handful of reviews and perhaps a few dozen book sales. This hard fact usually dampens an author’s momentum and is discouraging due to the tears, sweat, blood, and spiritual warfare that went into the writing of the book (I know this well as an author of seven books).
Speaking the truth in love – that’s somewhat like the person with one talent who was motivated by fear and perhaps ignorance about investing.
To be the person with ten talents (who will be given even more), you need to ask, seek, and knock daily in marketing your book. This is an investment of time and resources that will reap more rewards in the future.
Benefits from a Marketing Plan
Here’s an example of these rewards. When the launch was happening for my book, Transforming Your Thought Life, one of the launch team members shared a post. Then a missionary in Guatemala said she bought the book and would use it in her Sunday school there.
That amazing reach was not possible with my own tribe. It required the use of the marketing strategies in the launch to reach this sister in Christ and many others in another country.
In a phone call with my publisher, I learned another truth. He said that a book needs to be sold twice – once from the store, and again from a person’s bookshelf. The person who buys it has many things competing for his or her attention, and your marketing plan will remind them to pick your book back up and read it (and give you that all-important Amazon review too).
