It’s been a long time since I wrote on a five-minute prompt. It’s been even longer since I wrote a poem. This morning, I’m taking a few minutes to write this Easter prayer poem, and I hope you enjoy it.
I need spring, Lord.
I need You to clear away
all the brown decaying
detritus piled up for months
of cold waiting.
I need Your sunshine
to coax forth new growth
white and hidden
under dead leaves
but greening
as soon as Your light
gives sustenance.
I need your soft breezes
cheerful bird songs
blue sky hope
to remind me
nothing is impossible
for the one who believes.
One Sunday morning
Your light shone forth
in a garden,
when everyone thought
darkness would reign.
I need new hope
only You can give.
Help me find it today
in the fresh tender leaves
of lilac branches
whose flowers lift incense
heavenward
every year.
