Though Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, it’s not always easy to find comfort and joy if your heart is weighed down in sorrow, unless you ask God for help.
This year, I’m grieving a living death. The sorrow rises up from a deep spring, unbidden. It sometimes pours out in the very moment I’m rejoicing over God’s blessings. As I look at Christmas lights, enjoy hot tea and cookies, or listen to Christmas music, my sorrow suddenly threatens my peace.
Comfort and Joy Despite our Sorrows
Maybe you are facing a similar situation this Christmas. No matter how hard you try to fight them off, sorrows seem to take the victory spot over Christmas joy. I understand, and I want to offer you hope in this season.
I have found hope in a special verse of Psalm 34. I’m glad God brought it to my attention this year at Bible Study Fellowship, and I’m eager to share the comfort and joy I’ve found with you.
Today I’m honored to post at LifeLetter Cafe to explain how God offers us comfort and joy when our sorrow persists. Here’s a quick teaser of my post, and I hope you’ll continue to read the rest over at their site.
When Sorrow Doesn’t Take a Christmas Holiday
Christmas is a time of both joy and sorrow. We always have reason to rejoice in our Savior, especially at Christmas when we celebrate his birth. Yet our losses, disappointments and sorrows can feel stronger during this season of increased expectations.
Even though Christmas celebrates the joy of our Savior’s arrival, our sorrows don’t take a holiday.
I can’t remember a Christmas when I wasn’t affected by at least one significant disappointment. I also can’t remember a Christmas when God didn’t offer me joy, peace and love despite my heartbreak.
