2 Unique Books That Inspire a Mom’s Faith

I’ve enjoyed reading these two new books for moms, and they will inspire your faith in unique ways. Keep reading for a chance to win a copy of one of these great finds!

The Better Mom by Ruth Schwenk

The Better Mom

What mom doesn’t appreciate kind, loving advice from a mom who’s a little further ahead than you? In The Better Mom, Ruth Schwenk shares her best advice to encourage moms.

Encouragement for Moms

I receive Ruth’s encouraging emails every week. Her writing is so encouraging and helpful, I share her posts on my social media every chance I get. When The Better Mom was published, I eagerly awaited reading more from Ruth.

This book encourages moms of children who are still living at home. It’s written in a friendly, down-to-earth tone. The focus of this book is to affirm each mom’s struggles and encourage her faith in every one.

Read some of these chapter titles, and you’ll see what I mean:

This is What I Signed Up For?

I Miss My Friends!

I Hate This Stage of Life!

Motherhood Is Robbing Me Of ____

I Want to Make A Difference

Can you see how Ruth isn’t afraid to get real, just by these lines? She meets moms in the trenches and lifts them up. She doesn’t pretend that “momming” is easy, and she isn’t afraid to share her struggles. Ruth endured five miscarriages and plenty of other challenges in her momming experience. They equip her to be knowledgeable and wise in her advice-sharing. Young moms will especially appreciate Ruth’s candor and inspiration.

Favorite Quotes to Inspire Moms

“Children are like a payment we can receive joyfully–and one we must handle wisely.”

“When we feel like everything is up to us, momming is a lonely journey. We might quietly or secretly struggle to get by. One of the ways God works in us is through the people around us.”

“Home is the space where we begin the lifelong process of teaching, training, and maturing. So how we live in our homes matters. What a joy and honor it is that we get to give our kids the first taste of who God is.”

“Whether we are driven by hearts of fear or hearts of pride, we must stop comparing and competing if we want to experience the lives God has for us.”

“The pressures, expectations, stress, and loss of control that come along with being a mom can expose our hearts. More importantly, it exposes our need to run to God, the source of lasting change.”

The Daily Question: A great book to spark conversations between you and your child!

The Daily Question

Looking for a way to connect with your child in conversations about faith? This wonderful book is a helpful tool for facilitating fun and inspiring talks with your child, while treasuring the memories.

Inspiration for Moms

The Daily Question is a handy way to foster a closer relationship with your child. Each page has a question to ask with three different spaces to record the answers. The goal is to track your child’s answers over three years and look at the ways your child’s views are changing.

I think the book is best suited to children of at least kindergarten age. Some of the questions will be too abstract for younger children to answer. The questions are a mixture of lighthearted fun and thoughtful. Moms, they will inspire many interesting conversations between you and your child or children.

I’ve modified my use of this book since I have three children. I record each child’s answer, so it will take us one year to go through this book instead of three. We’re having fun with it, even though my 14-year-old is rolling his eyes at some of the questions (but hey, we all need more fun and silliness in our lives, right?).

Questions to Spark Great Conversations

Here’s a sample of the discussion questions for August:

“What imaginary creature do you wish was real?”

“Name someone who makes you smile, and explain why.”

“What do you do if you have a nightmare?”

“What would you like to learn to cook by yourself?”

“Name three special qualities God designed in you.”

I like the smallish size of the book that makes it easy to store on my kitchen counter for dinner discussions. The front cover allows you to slip a photo of your child in the front so the book is more personalized. It will become a fun keepsake to flip through in years to come.

Moms, YOUR faith can grow by discussing your answers to these questions with your children! This book will foster their faith while it fosters yours too.
