Another desperate day dawned. This was one of her “bad” days, a day she would have normally spent in bed, reserving her strength. But she had heard that a Healer was coming through her town. She gathered her resolve while she redressed her bloody wound. Maybe today he would heal her, as he had healed others. Maybe this would be the last day she would feel desperate.

Writing for five unedited minutes on the Five Minute Friday prompt “Future.”

For the longest time, I had an orphan heart. As a child of divorce, loneliness and turmoil were frequent companions. My present was so painful, I didn’t dare waste energy hoping for a better future.

After decades of struggle, therapy, and faith construction, I finally broke free from my painful past. Just this past year, I’ve learned to lean into hope and dream with God about a bright future.
