A Prayer for Peace in the Overwhelm
Prince of Peace,
Meet me today
in the Christmas overwhelm:
piled-up
cookie sheets, papers, emails
messy
trash cans, floors, bathrooms
disorganized
counters, purses, decor.
Lord of order,
All-knowing One,
You see my unsent packages
unfiled bills
unread books
And yet, you do not condemn.
You embrace me
in a rush of peace
right in the middle
of my kitchen
with my unwashed hair
and flour-covered apron:
a reminder
you helped Mary
face an impossible task
a difficult journey
a lowly birth.
All I want is to sit and rest
bundled up by the tree of lights
gazing upon your wonder
like Mary gazed upon your face:
such hope
in such darkness.
I want your slow peace
to steal over me:
Christmas peace
in the midst of my mess,
Christmas peace
to power me through
busy December
Christmas peace
to grant me hope
joy
and love
from your overflow.

For the next three weeks of the Advent season, I’ll be sharing Advent prayers here on the blog. They will be short, easy reads to lift you up in your busy days. I’ll also have batches of book reviews for you on Tuesdays, in case you need some last-minute Christmas gift ideas.
Also, I’m SO excited that I will be featured on the (in)courage blog on December 23 with a special Christmas-themed post. I hope you’ll take a minute or two to read it on that day, and let me know what you think!
