I’m making a fresh start in the new year – linking up on Five Minute Friday again after a long hiatus. I’d like to share poems and prayers I write in five minutes flat, along with recent artwork I’m doing to fill my soul. Here goes!
A Fresh Start in the New Year
Father God,
I want to make a fresh start this new year.
It’s been too long since I created things
in a longing to reflect your glory.
Creating beauty that’s only a copy of yours
yet something innate I long to do.
I love the feel of pen on paper,
the rush of color on a blank page.
Charcoal scooting across vellum
and watercolor seeping into art paper.
Help me make a fresh start
in my long-forsaken art career,
the one I enjoyed developing
in three-hour-long B.F.A. classes,
entering that space of flow
you create for us
as a thin space between heaven and earth.
The space where we are at the center of your will,
investing the talents you lavishly gave to us
to mysteriously create more
where there once was nothing.
O Father, what a joy to bear
your image, to create as you created,
to offer the world something beautiful
that expresses life beyond words.
A shadowed glimpse
of the beauty angels see
every day around your throne
and on the hills of heaven.
