A 2024 Prayer for America

A 2024 Prayer for America is on my heart today as storms rage, devastation occurs, and politics divide. Will you pray this scripture-based prayer with me?

A 2024 Prayer for America

I’m writing this 2024 Prayer for America and inviting you to pray it with me.

O Lord God Almighty,

We come before you today on our knees.

Our hearts are distressed.

Concern weighs on us.

Fear tempts us.

We fear what the future holds.

Today a huge storm rages and threatens to hit with full force.

Many are still devastated by a recent hurricane.

Our country is divided by hatred and confusion.

Blame is cast on every side.

Racism is rising.

Children are suffering.

Distrust is rampant.

It seems our whole culture is being shaken from top to bottom.

We lay our problems at the feet of the cross.

Yet your word tells us this:

“I, only I, am the Lord, And there is no savior besides Me.”

Isaiah 43:11 NASB

We are your witnesses today, O Lord.

We claim you as our God and Savior.

Only you can rescue our great country from demise.

Only you can save us from these storms that are shaking our world.

So we cast our anxiety upon you, for you care for us (1 Pet. 5:7).

Jesus, you also told us these things:

“See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will mislead many people. And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.

“Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. And at that time many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will rise up and mislead many people…because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will become cold. But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.”

Matthew 24:4-14 NASB

Lord, we do not know if we are living in the end times or the end of our culture.

However, we know that with each new day, we are one day closer to your return, Jesus.

We confess that we are alarmed by wars, rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, hurricanes, wildfires, and other disasters.

We have been misled by false prophets who have infiltrated your church and fed us the prosperity gospel, progressive teachings, and radical twisting of truths to the far left and far right.

Our culture has moved away from its Christian foundations and prostituted itself with the false gods of materialism, entertainment, pornography, and greed.

We have allowed the ancient false gods of Chemosh and Molech to steal and kill millions of our children with our willing consent.

We have utterly wasted the abundant gift of your word and most of us are biblically illiterate, being more satisfied with milk than meat.

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Romans 1:21 NIV

Our families are shattered by divorce, abuse, addiction, betrayals, and estrangements because we live for ourselves rather than submitting to you and one another.

Though we have been given five bags of gold in our freedoms and blessings, we have squandered and hidden them, rather than investing them for your glory.

O Lord, we confess our many sins before you, both personally and corporately as Americans.

We deserve your wrath for how sinful we have become as a nation.

Yet we come to you today, asking for your mercy.

For the sake of your son, Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for us, may we receive your grace, Heavenly Father.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

Lord, we find hope in this passage.

We know you have always preserved a remnant of true believers from the beginning of time, and you are preserving one today in America.

May those of us who know you and trust you get serious about our faith today.

Help us to look at our fellow Americans through your eyes, not our own. May we see them with compassion, like harassed and helpless sheep without a shepherd. Show us what we can do to encourage them and build them up rather than tearing them down.

May we offer prayerful and practical help to strangers because you move us to be your face, hands, and feet to them.

May we act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, Lord (Micah 6:8).

Give us hope when we hear about revivals breaking out across our country.

Use these hard times we face to draw us closer to you and one another.

Help us not give up the habit of meeting together, but to draw strength from one another in the Church.

May we let our light shine before others so they see our good deeds and glorify you in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

Fit us with armor for the spiritual warfare we will face as persecutions increase.

Help us endure to the end, and fight the good fight of faith for your glory.

For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise.

Psalm 47:7 NIV

We praise you, Lord, as the King of all the earth!

No one can rule like you.

You appoint leaders for us and give us the freedom to vote.

May we submit our wills to yours as we cast our votes this November.

We pray for protection for our leaders; may no weapon formed against them prevail (Isaiah 54:17 NIV).

We pray for fair, honest, truthful elections not tainted by falsehood.

Today we ask you for another great revival to sweep this nation.

We pray that when people turn their hearts over to you, true change will occur.

May you establish our beloved America as a city on a hill once more to bring light and life to all nations.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
