Does your tween girl love God and love to get creative? I have two great new recommendations for you to purchase for her, plus a few personal photos to share!
God’s Girl Says Yes: What God Can Do When We Follow Him
Are you looking for a faith-building book for your tween girl? God’s Girl Says Yes is an excellent choice for girls between the ages of 8 and 12 years. It would also make a great Bible study for an adult to lead with a Sunday school class or small group with tween girls.
Wynter Pitts writes in a friendly, casual voice that tween girls like my 9-year-old daughter enjoy. She shares stories of her own childhood with details that appeal to girls’ sensibilities. I like the fact that she approaches girls with humility and kindness.
This book is a study on the fruits of the spirit, and each fruit gets its own chapter.
But first, Wynter lays a solid five-step foundation:
1. An offer of friendship with the tween girl, like an older, wiser sister
2. The fact that God has chosen this girl for special purposes, and she needs to choose Him too
3. How to say yes to God by loving and trusting in Him
4. Saying yes to a relationship with God, and practical suggestions for how to cultivate one
5. Saying yes to God’s offer for help as she begins bearing spiritual fruit
I really like that Wynter takes the time to form that basis before diving into a discussion about each fruit.
As your tween girl works through the fruits of the spirit, she’ll find journal prompts, thoughtful questions and inspiring stories of other tweens who are serving God. The turquoise blue highlights and cute graphics will also appeal to your tween girl.
My daughter and I are reading this book out loud together, taking turns discussing the truths and how they apply to our lives. It’s a great tool for talking about God with your tween girl.
Thanks goes to Harvest House and Netgalley for a preview copy of this book.
Create! A Girl’s Guide to DIY, Doodles and Design
If your tween girl loves crafts, Create! will be her new go-to book for inspiration.
Create! contains more than 50 activity and craft ideas with full-color illustrations and clear instructions. The book is easy to follow with little help from an adult. I like the fact that many of the crafts have a faith-based theme.
A fun #craft book for your #tweengirl to use on a rainy day. Click To TweetThe book is divided into three different sections of ideas: DIY, Doodles and Design. Here are a few examples of each kind:

• Turn a soap box into a place to hold prayer requests.
• Use pom-poms as toppers for push pins and magnets.
• Collect natural elements to make a unique spray-painted canvas.
Doodles
• Develop your own hand-lettering style.
• Learn how to draw a self-portrait.
• Make a Bible verse poster with word art.
Design
• Upcycle materials for custom appliques on a t-shirt or tote bag.
• Turn an old pair of jeans into a cute purse.
• Make a braided fabric wrap bracelet.
One rainy Sunday afternoon, I pulled items out of my craft stash and let my daughter loose with this book. Here is her take on the Beaded Letter project (we used paper flowers instead of beads):
Here is her first attempt at hand-lettering:
My tween girl has her eyes on Button Bracelets, Paint Chip Banner, Pencil Photo Frame, and a Ribbon Chandelier for her next projects. It will keep her busy and happy for many more rainy days to come. The crafty tween girl still inside this mom loves seeing her creations!
