The Power of Praying Big

The Power of Praying Big

I’ve been praying for BIG things this year, and God has granted some BIG answers.

This spring, I worried about our tax bill. I thought it would equal many thousands of dollars. I prayed fervently for provision. In April we got the amazing answer that we’d owe only $108.00 in BOTH state and federal taxes. I paid more in taxes the first year I worked as a teenager! God answered those prayers in a BIG way.

I also felt called to leave my secretarial job and pursue the freelance life this May. I prayed that God would provide enough freelance work for me to equal my secretarial pay, so we can afford to keep all three of our children in private Christian school for one more year (our oldest will attend public high school next year).

It’s now almost three months since I began full-time freelance work. God has provided four regular jobs for me, and three of them are writing and editing Christian material. Also, I received notice from our wonderful church that they are offsetting our tuition costs even more this year, so our tuition payments equal only 15% of what I anticipated having to pay. Talk about BIG answers to prayer!

I’ve prayed for decades that God would bring my dreams of writing to life. My prayers are being answered in BIG ways right now, because God has BIG plans for me.

He’s finally convinced me that my prayers are powerful, even when I feel anxious, scared, frustrated, or small when I utter them. Especially with this next example.

When I was at She Speaks 2017, we endured a widespread power outage on Friday night. I woke up around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and realized the power was still off. I began praying in a rather bossy way:

God, you are bigger than this power grid. We need you, Father! Think of all the ministries that are at stake here–all the publisher meetings, networking opportunities, and ways that your Gospel can spread further through the hundreds of women at this conference. We simply can’t do this with the power off, God. We need elevators to work, breakfast to be prepared, showers to be warm and hair dryers in full operation. We need lighting and sound in every single room–especially for group worship, Lord! You have to do something, God, and you have to do it now!

At 4:41 a.m., the power was restored, right when I was praying. Of course, God could turn the power back on whenever He deemed. But part of me wonders…was He waiting to hear my prayer first?

What prayer is God waiting to hear from you today?

Friend, what prayer is God waiting on you to utter?

Jesus spoke this beautiful truth in Matthew 17:20 NIV:

“Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

After this year, I’m no longer doubting that I can move mountains through prayer. Have you experienced this freedom and power, available to you through the Holy Spirit?

What mountains need moving in your life?

Finances? Job situation? Health? Relationships?

Lift your prayer up today. Trust that He hears you and will work in BIG ways on your behalf. Click To Tweet

Then give Him all the glory for the BIG answers you receive!

In the comments, please share what BIG answers God has given you this year, so we can praise Him together!
