Finding God’s Blessings in Brokenness: How Pain Reveals His Deepest Love
I’m a long-time fan of Dr. Charles Stanley, whose teaching has had a very important impact on my spiritual growth. This book did not disappoint my expectations of solid biblical teaching, deep insights into God’s truth, and uplifting encouragement.
This book is rather small in size and short in length, but it is not like any other “gift” book you will encounter. Its gorgeous nature photos throughout set a meditative mood, perfect for this topic. Dr. Stanley affirms those who are feeling broken. He offers guidance and addresses hard questions such as, “Why is God allowing me to suffer?” and “What is the purpose of my pain?” He gently challenges the reader to consider his or her brokenness from a wider perspective and use it for greater spiritual growth.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Finding God’s Blessings in Brokenness:
- Brokenness is not something to be shunned or avoided at all costs. Rather, it is something we are to face with faith.
- Where is God? He was with you at your first taste of pain, he has been with you in the darkness, he continues to be with you, and he will be with you as he uses this experience to do his refining work in your life.
- God wants us to completely rely on him. So God crushes, breaks, shatters, and removes anything from our lives–very often something dear to us that we are holding too tightly–that either separates us from his love, forms a barrier between him and us, or hinders our ability to serve our Lord.
This book is an ideal resource for anyone enduring a season of suffering. I hope you know someone who will be blessed and encouraged by the solid truths in Finding God’s Blessings in Brokenness.
